2019 Scholarship Awardees
Hendricks CareerTek is excited to offer financial scholarships to Greater Beloit.
Through the generosity of our sponsors for the Dare to Dream Events, Mike Rowe and Travis Mills, we awarded $25,000 in scholarship funds in the Spring of 2019. We hope to continue this service on a yearly basis.
In order to qualify students must have participated in CareerTek’s programming or services. It is hoped that students will pursue careers in high demand from across the Southern Wisconsin region.
I graduated from Beloit Memorial High School. Some of the programs I have been involved through the Hendricks CareerTek are the CNA, BizTank, and tutor for middle/elementary students. I was also a part of the Trio Upward Bound program at Beloit College for four years. During my high school career, I was in the following sports: cross country, swimming, and track. I will be attending UWEC this fall and majoring in nursing. After I complete the Nursing program, I would like to further my education at grad school to ultimately become a Nurse Practitioner. This scholarship will help provide financial security during my first year because all of this money will be going to tuition.
My name is Adam Bohn and I am a graduate of Hononegah High School in Rockton Illinois. This fall I will be attending Iowa State University pursuing a degree in Mechanical Design Engineering with an emphasis in Rapid Prototyping. I am currently working as a mechanical engineering intern at Crandall Stats and Sensors in Machesney Park Illinois and am continuing my work with Hononegah’s Stateline Robotics Team and their various outreach programs. I found out about Hendricks Careertek when I took a Raspberry Pi programming course several years ago. It was my first real exposure to the world of programming and I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in the program. Hendricks is a wonderful organization that will continue to inspire and support young people as they pursue their interests in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Hi I’m Samantha Corbit and I’m one of the recipients of the careertek scholarship! I recently graduated from Beloit memorial high school, I have been a CNA for about a year now and I plan on using my scholarship to continue with my education and become an RN, I am so grateful to careertek for helping me achieve my goals and accomplish my dreams
I’m Evelyn Cortes and I graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 2018. I am currently in my second year of college at Blackhawk Technical College. I’m enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program. Throughout my high school I was involved in Link Crew, Leo’s club, International club, French club, Art Club and National Honor Society. I have also been involved in Hendricks Career Tek by attending the dare to dream and going for help with homework. After graduating from Blackhawk Technical College I will be attending the University of Whitewater to earned my bachelor’s degree in Early Child Education.
I am Cameron Covey and I’ve been involved with CareerTek for 3 years. During my sophomore year, Career Tek helped me get an apprenticeship with CCI Construction company. I worked under an architect as an intern modeling blueprints on AutoCAD. I also worked at Schubert Theatres as an usher/vender and at at Merrill & Houston’s as a busser. As time allowed, I would help at CareerTek. I participated in almost all of the Dare To Dream events. I also assisted with the Construction Academy at CareerTek. One of the highlights was getting the opportunity to help with the Travis Mills’ event. CareerTek also made it possible for me to shadow at a local Aerospace company. An opportunity that I truly enjoyed.
Hi, my name is Mayra. I recently graduated from Beloit Memorial High School and will be attending the University of Illinois at Chicago to major for Healthcare Administration. I will Most likely minor in business administration as well. My goal is to come back to hometown and manage a hospital or my own business.
I’m Kate Gianvecchio and I attended Beloit Memorial High School. I participated in one season of Biztank. This fall, I will be attending the University of Texas at Austin where I plan to major in mathematics and minor in chemistry.
Gloria Heiss graduated with the class of 2019 at Beloit Memorial High School as a part-time student while also pursuing her education through home-based education and an online dual enrollment program offered at Concordia University. She spent her high school career honing her public speaking craft with seven years of competition, coaching students, and interning for a speech and debate program. When she wasn’t working in Janesville at a television station, volunteering, or writing speeches, she spent her time kickboxing, cuddling with her cats, participating in pageants, and planning community events at her high school and library. Her two biggest highlights of the past four years were leading the Kids Against Hunger project at Beloit Memorial and organizing her own book give away with her National Honor Society club, of which she was the president. She is blessed to be going to UW-Madison in the fall to start her next journey as a business badger with her friends she has made over the years with her participation in a summer program called Business Emerging Leaders offered at the college. CareerTek has played a major role in her life these past two years and she will be eternally grateful for their encouragement, investment, and belief in her.
Jorge Jurado-Garcia comes from Beloit, Wisconsin and graduating Beloit Memorial High School with Honors and Distinction. At Memorial, Jorge was part of NHS,DECA, and Captain of Beloit Lifting team earning several awards at regional competitions. He also participated at other extracurricular activities Biztank, CareerTek tutoring, Dare-to-Dream, and UW-Rock County Math Club. At MSOE, Jorge Plans to pursue a major in Electrical Engineering with a minor in math and Finance. Jorge plans to create his own Olympic Weightlifting club in MSOE and help students with health and fitness. After graduation, Jorge plans to attend Cornell University and pursue his masters in electrical engineering.
My name is Elizabeth Kelly, I am a recent graduate from Beloit Memorial High School and will be attending University of Rock County this fall. Throughout High School I was involved with CareerTek as an intern for the 2018 Dare to Dream event featuring Travis Mills and intern for the Beloit Health system/CareerTek health care grant. I also attended Biztank, 2017 Dare to Dream event featuring Mike Rowe, summer Dare to Dream hosted by Diane Hendricks, the 92nd chamber dinner, and several job shadows through CareerTek.
My name is Deep Patel, and I graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 2019. Throughout high school, I was involved in numerous organizations and activities. Some of these activities include Hendricks CareerTEK, National Honor Society, Kids Against Hunger, Student Senate, Chemistry Club, Environmental Club, and much more. I am extremely fortunate to have had the opportunities I did while in Beloit as I have taken away many skills and knowledge away from them. Specifically BizTank, which I was introduced to by CareerTEK, has really given me many eye opening experiences. The diverse keynote speakers and individuals I met at BizTank stick with me even today, and more importantly the wisdom the speakers shared with all of us is very much applicable to my future. I will be attending Marquette University this fall, and I will be majoring in Biomedical Sciences with the goal of becoming a dentist.
Hello, my name is Nishani Patel and I am a 2019 graduate of Beloit Memorial High School. Throughout high school, I received many awards such as Perfect Attendance, the Purple Knight Achievement Award for Student Senate, the Academic Achievement Award, the Superintendent Scholars Award, the Minority Scholar Award, the Outstanding Musicianship Award, and the Band Merit Award. Additionally, I have received department honors in mathematics as a top math student, in english for my argumentative essay, and in music for band. I have also been recognized as a Rotary Student of the Week, a Yuda Bands Project Leader, an AP Scholar with Honor, the Girls Varsity Tennis Most Valuable Player, and an organizer for the 2018 Kids Against Hunger Event. Aside from these accolades, I was involved with Hendricks CareerTek during my senior year of high school as I completed two seasons of Biztank and helped paint bookshelves for the literacy event Also during my senior year of high school, I became a Porter Scholar at Beloit College. Next year, I will be attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison and will be majoring in actuarial science.
Brennan Shelton recently graduated in June ‘19 from Monroe High School. At MHS, Brennan was a four-year athlete in Track & Field and Cross Country where he was chosen for the Team Captain Award for his leadership roles. He also participated in Finance Club for two years, in which his team was a two-time finalist for the Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl. Currently, Brennan is working towards his Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Blackhawk Technical College which he will have completed in July ‘19. In the fall he will be attending Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa to pursue his Bachelor of Science in Nursing to become a Registered Nurse. It is his hope that he will become a nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). Brennan has always had an interest in entering the medical field and is excited for his journey to being at Clarke.
