Shelby Ambrose
South Beloit H.S.
My name is Shelby Ambrose and I am a senior at South Beloit High School.
Throughout high school I have participated in a wide range of activities including softball, volleyball, President of Student Council, and our National Honor Society. I have immensely enjoyed my time participating in them, and will be sad to leave these groups behind.
Outside of school, I love to spend my time with friends and family, take exciting trips, and try new things.
Last summer, CareerTek helped me get into the CNA program where I truly discovered what I wanted to do. The program was super helpful and such a good experience for me to obtain. The certification put me a step ahead so I am prepared for the future.
I have always been a person who enjoys helping and providing people with care, which is what led me to choose the medical field. My passion for healthcare has pushed me into pursuing nursing, and I couldn’t be more excited. This fall, I will be attending either Saint Anthony’s College of Nursing, or The University of Missouri to obtain a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing.
I thank CareerTek for giving me countless opportunities to help me advance towards my future career and choosing me as a recipient for this scholarship. Their support throughout my time in school has been very impactful and will assist me in my education beyond high school.
My Future Desired Occupation is a Labor and Delivery Nurse
Alexa Barajas
The Lincoln Academy
My name is Alexa Barajas and I am a senior at The Lincoln Academy. I am interested in art, reading, and writing. I also like learning about evolution, art history, and anatomy. I have been running a small business called Hiraeth Jewelry since 8th grade and sell my pieces at local markets, online through Instagram, and at The Rogue Bookshop in downtown Beloit. I received two awards for my first stained glass artwork and have participated in Beloit Art Center’s High School art shows for three years. Additionally, I enjoy taking their summer pottery classes, and I also completed a painting class at MIAD. I am learning how to oil paint, silver solder, and play the bass. Creativity is one of my biggest passions.
Aside from my personal life, academically, I am a PorterScholar at Beloit College, meaning I am in the top 15% of my grade. In the fall semester I took Introduction to Philosophy. In spring I am completing two courses including Archaeology: Lessons Past and Intro to Psychology. I have completed several job shadows through CareerTek, leading to my position as an intern at the Wright Museum of Art. I plan to work there over the summer and throughout my time in college.
I was awarded the presidential scholarship at Beloit College and plan to study there this upcoming fall. I plan to major in Anthropology, the study of humanity, and minor in Museum Studies. Ultimately, I hope to help preserve, interpret, and share cultural heritage and history by working in a museum as a researcher and curator. Anthropology appealed to me because it bridges the scientific with the human condition: art, connection, and growth. I want to use my voice and be part of that process of asking questions, conducting careful research, and helping others engage with history in meaningful, inclusive ways. CareerTek’s investment in my future education not only benefits myself and my family, but also gives hope to this incoming generation of like-minded and ambitious Latinas. Thank you for your support.
Chloe Cleasby
Parkview H.S.
My name is Chloe Cleasby, and I am a recent graduate of Parkview High School. Throughout my time at Parkview, I was actively involved in the FFA chapter, where I served as treasurer during the 2024–2025 and 2025–2026 school years. I was also a dedicated member of the forensics program, advancing to the state level and earning second place. Academically, I challenged myself by taking numerous Advanced Placement and college-level courses through the Early College Credit Program and the Beloit Porter Scholar Program. I also participated in numerous healthcare based events through careertek ensuring that healthcare was the route I wanted to go. Through these opportunities, I was able to earn my CNA license and begin working at SSM Health Janesville on the medical-surgical floor. In the fall, I plan to continue my education at Edgewood University to pursue a degree in nursing, with the goal of working in the ICU after graduation. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Hendricks CareerTek Program for the support and opportunities that have helped me reach this point.
Savanna Jovenal
Beloit Turner H.S.
My name is Savanna Jovenal and I’m a graduating senior from Turner High School. I also attend Blackhawk Tech where I have been completing my prerequisites for nursing.
I initially began my journey in the healthcare field when I was 16 at a nursing facility as a youth apprentice. I since then have grown to love the field and have decided to continue my education in nursing. CareerTek has encouraged my growth and opened many doors to help me understand what my passion really was. I have participated in multiple activities with Hendricks CareerTek including various job shadows, and the CNA program. I am beyond thankful that
Hendricks CareerTek has allowed me to experience the occupation and supported me in reaching my goals.
While I am a dedicated student, I also value faith, personal growth, and building strong relationships. My faith as a Christian plays an important role in my life, and I enjoy participating in Bible studies to help me strengthen my understanding of scripture. In my free time, I enjoy working out, reading, and spending time with loved ones. I strive to live a balanced life by focusing on my religious, physical, and personal development while working towards my future goals.
Angelyn Lopez-Velazquez
South Beloit H.S.
My name is Angelyn López-Velázquez, and I am a graduating senior at South Beloit High
School.
I have been heavily involved in various extracurricular activities throughout high school, including Beloit College Upward Bound, Drama Club, National Honor Society, Student Council, and many more. As an active member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church here in South Beloit, I volunteered at our yearly Fun Fair for three years. After a field trip to the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office last year, I sought out the opportunity to job-shadow a coroner. It was my first time seeing a morgue firsthand, and that visit confirmed my passion for forensics. I have been taking dual credit classes since my sophomore year of high school, trying to finish my general education credits before graduating from high school. Currently in my senior year, I am enrolled full-time at Rock Valley College and plan to continue my second year this upcoming fall. This past year, I was named a QuestBridge finalist and an Illinois State Scholar. I hope to further my education up to obtaining my PhD. During any time of my education, I would like to study abroad to gain insight into the world outside of the classroom and explore my options
instead of limiting myself to just one. I would love to work as a forensic scientist after obtaining my PhD, and intern at a lab during my master’s or PhD program. Having interests in both forensics and physics, I would love to be able to practice both my passions in an interdisciplinary field.
Because of CareerTek’s dedication to the youth of the greater Beloit area, I was able to experience my interests without feeling limited. Participating in many after-school and summer programs, I have explored healthcare, trades, cosmetology, and law. While none of those may have stuck, it was because of these opportunities that I was able to learn what I loved and what maybe not so much.
My next destination might seem far, but with the help of scholarships like the college scholarship offered through Hendricks CareerTek, the future I have continuously worked for no longer seems unattainable.
