Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)


A CNA provides direct care to patients, clients, or residents at a hospital or facility. Job opportunities are available upon certification.

The CNA Scholarship offers high school students and young adults (age 16 – 21) the opportunity to take the nursing assistant course at Blackhawk Technical College.  Students receive support throughout the sign-up process as well as the nursing assistant course.  The scholarship covers the cost of:

  • Background check
  • Tuition
  • Books/Supplies
  • Uniform/scrubs
  • State Exam


  • Must have participated in a CareerTek activity.
  • Age 16 – 21 by start of class.
  • A strong interest in health care or related career paths.
  • Review additional requirements specific to each program located on the sign up page.

Fall 2020 Offering

Scholarship Application Window:

  • Wed. Aug. 5 – Fri. Aug. 14, 2020
  • Applicants will be notified by Aug. 18, 2020 if they were chosen for the scholarship program
  • Only 8 spots available

Deadline Committment:

Clinical requirement documentation is uploaded to Viewpoint. Each student participating in the nursing assistant program is required to complete the requirements in Viewpoint prior to being registered for the course.

  • Friday August 21, 2020
    Student must have applied to Blackhawk Technical College
  • Friday August 28, 2020
    Student must have met the minimum testing requirement as outlined by Blackhawk Technical College (ACT, preACT, SAT, preSAT, or Accuplacer)
  • Friday September 4, 2020
    Student must have completed their background check requirement in Viewpoint
  • Wednesday September 16, 2020
    All Viewpoint requirements must be completed

Please note the changing course times from 11/11/2020 – 12/15/2020 to accommodate clinical hours

  • Hybrid Class – Online work required. In class times listed below:
    • LAB — 9/22/2020 – 11/10/2020
      • Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday
      • 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm
    • CLINICAL — 11/11/2020 – 12/15/2020
      • Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday
      • 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Viewpoint Requirements:

(these will be completed once the student is accepted – please do not attempt to complete prior to)

  • Health Insurance Card
  • Background Check
  • Physical exam by qualified healthcare practitioner
  • 2-step-TB test
  • Current on the following Immunizations: MMR, varicella, hepatitis B, tdap, influenza

Parent & Student Committment:

Upon submission of your initial application you will receive a confirmation email. This email will include a link to the Parent & Student Commitment Contract. Both parent and student will need to read and digitally sign this contract.
Your submission is NOT complete or approved until this document has been signed and received.

Hands-on Healthcare Training and Job Shadowing

CPR/AED Classes

Certification through the American Heart Association. Students can earn their initial certification or become recertified.

Scrubs (Teen Medical Programs)

Will be held in the Summer, it is a six week experience that will provide hands-on healthcare activities at Beloit Memorial Hospital.

Field Trips to Healthcare Institutions

Field trips to local and state health science or healthcare institutions for a behind-the-scenes tour and career-related experience.

Healthcare Academies

Provide small groups of 25-30 students an in-depth experience exploring specific health science career options.

How Do I Qualify?

Open to anyone in the Stateline Area meeting the following criteria:

  • A strong interest in health care or related career paths.
  • Review additional requirements specific to each program located on the sign up page.
  • Healthcare Academics participants must be between 14 to 19 years of age.
