Students will explore how engineers create more environmentally friendly spaces, learn about LEED certification and green building strategies, and discover the science behind sustainable design.
Then, they’ll put their creativity to work by designing and building their own model of a green building.

Could you choose the perfect place to build a new community?
Step into the roles of civil engineers and geologists as you explore how professionals determine whether land is suitable for construction.
In this lab, students will collect and analyze soil samples from Big Hill Park, use their findings to evaluate potential building sites, and make the final call on where to build their imaginary development.

Ocean Acidification
Increased carbon in the air can cause big trouble for ocean life!
In this lab, students will become environmental engineers as they design and test a system to reduce the acidity of water using bubbles!

Chemical Engineering Bioplastics
Plastic is incredibly versatile, but some plastics can take hundreds of years to break down, creating challenges for animals and ecosystems.
Working with an organic compound derived from algae, students will create their own plastic alternative and discover how chemical engineers are designing materials for a more sustainable future.
