High School Students enrolled in the March Healthcare Club will learn about Phlebotomy.

Phlebotomy is a medical procedure that involves using a needle to extract blood from a vein, usually in the arm with a cannula for the purpose of drawing blood. Students will learn the following: Phlebotomy is performed for laboratory testing for the purpose of diagnosing medical conditions and to determine treatment options for blood disorders and for removing excess red blood cells, how a tourniquet is applied to the vein for a blood draw, how a vein is found for the optimal site for the needle, what specific conditions can be treated through phlebotomy, how empathy plays an important role, as well as the career path of a Phlebotomist.

  • Dates: Five Mondays: 03/03, 03/10, 03/17, 03/24 (no class), 03/31
