Expose middle school students to construction skills, careers and school opportunities through a hands-on building of house type dog houses.

Learn basic culinary skills while preparing and cooking American fare

Student teams will compete to rotate tires in a specific order with each student taking a tire off and remounting the tire in a different position on the vehicle. Using a scan tool, students will retrieve an engine code from a vehicle and diagnose the code. Student will receive a tour of an Electric Vehicle build and take a ride in the high torque, tire spinning vehicle as it rolls around the track.
Students will have fun collaborating as they perform critical thinking to solve problems using diagnostic techniques. Students will become familiar with tools and equipment that are used in the automotive industry, and will experience fun, hands-on activities

Students practice skills related to careers in Firefighting and EMS. Activities include Airway management, bleeding control, searching for victims, using an extinguisher, putting out a car fire and more.
Students will be introduced to the Firefighters and EMS careers and what education is needed for these careers.

This Babysitting Basics course provides a foundation on which to build a babysitting business. Designed for new babysitters, this course delivers information clearly, concisely and interactively, the perfect way for young people to learn all about the responsibilities that come with the job.
Students will receive certification in First Aid and CPR/AED, and add even more value to parents and their children.

Tale of Two Rivers: The importance of water quality
Participants will enter into Turtle Creek and Goose Creek to perform macroinvertebrate study and water quality tests. Participants should be prepared to enter into the rivers to catch and identify fish, shellfish, larva and other small creatures. (bring a backpack: old shoes for use in the water, a change of clothes, a towel, a plastic bag for wet and dirty items.) I will inform participants in an email They will also perform onsite chemistry to check for phosphates, nitrates, dissolved oxygen, and the water way’s pH value.
Students will come away with an understanding of how water quality limits the kind of life found in rivers.

To teach students the basics of Python programming, including a history of the language and an exploration of the way it is used in the IoT (Internet of Things)

This is a unique, week long program that focuses on the technology of automation. Students will make Lego robots and learn how program them. Also included is 3D printing, competitions, tours and demonstrations of other BTC programs related to engineering and a whole lot more! Students must be able to attend all 5 days.

Students will have the opportunity to meet and learn from professionals within the healthcare industry. Each represented career will have a hands on activity including physical therapy, respiratory therapy, chiropractic, mental wellness, dental assistant, nursing and more. Students will explore using simulators to start an IV, listen to heart and lungs, take a blood pressure, identify bones on a skeleton, inspect xrays, the list goes on. Come learn from the best.

For students participating for the first time, there will be an Introduction to Metal Fabrication and Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG) and including Safety brief, Design, fabricate. For those who have participated in the past, you will get the above and a chance to work on a level 2 project.

(Wearable Tech)
In this workshop, participants will use the micro:bit’s drag and drop interface, MakeCode, to learn how to code the device. Students will walk through the various features of a micro:bit and learn how the code they create can activate animation, temperature sensing, radio buttons and motion sensors. Students will also design and make their own animated bracelet.

Students receive an introduction to computer-aided design and 3D printing technology by designing a board game. Students will learn about 3D printing technology and related careers. They will brainstorm and plan a board game and use computer-aided design and 3D printing to create pieces for their game. They will construct their board game using common classroom materials and then present and play their board games with each other.

Students will be introduced to careers held by women in four different trades within the construction industry. Each trade will include a hands on activity.

The activities will be designed to show students a more in-depth view of what skills are needed to be a law enforcement officers. While many people see officers driving squad cars and performing other tactical skills, it is the critical thinking, decision making, observation skills, and creative problem solving that are the skills most often used by modern day law enforcement officers.

Students will have the opportunity to meet and learn from professionals within the construction industry.
Each represented trade/career will have a hands on activity including carpentry, masonry, fire protection, architecture, engineering and more.

CareerTek is partnering with PBS Wisconsin Education to extend their free summer academy offerings for Beloit students in 1st or 2nd grade.
Summer Academies are a great way to learn about world of work opportunities through reading, hands-on play, and PBS KIDS digital media. Lunch will be included.
Register today for any of the three offerings from 9:00-12:00pm. You are welcome to register your child for one or all three. If your child is no longer able to attend, please let us know.
