Day 1:
In this workshop, participants will use the micro:bit’s drag and drop interface, MakeCode, to learn how to code the device. Students will walk through the various features of a micro:bit and learn how the code they create can activate animation, temperature sensing, radio buttons and motion sensors. Students will also design and make their own animated bracelet.
Day 2:
The credit-card sized Arduino board is used in robotics, to control sensors, or to create wearable technology. In this workshop, students will get hands-on with their own Arduino to create projects using sensors and light displays. No coding experience is required.
This academy is made possible through a collaborative partnership between Hendricks CareerTek and Blackhawk Technical College. Instructional materials provided by Tech Girlz.

Fire Ops is an exciting opportunity to dive into understanding the life saving profession of fire ops. Be part of exploring three different perspectives and their roles as part of a life saving team–emergency medical, fire rescue and rescue specialties.
Day 1:
Experience a day in the life of a professional fire fighter with engine operations, vehicle extrication (using equipment to remove people trapped in vehicles) and basics of emergency medical services.
Day 2:
Deepen your experience by testing your skills in the confined spaces trailer, using tools of the trade to gain forcible entry and more.

Thinking of a future in engineering or architecture or construction? Learn basic design principles alongside professionals from the field and put your skills to the test with an opportunity to build your design. Participants learn necessary safety to handle basic tools and necessary skills like reading a tape measure.
Day 1:
Participants work with a local architect to learn basic design principles, which are applied to their original little library designs. Working with Sketch up, designs are taken from free hand concept drawings to actual 3D designs for construction on day 2.
Day 2:
Participants work with construction professionals to learn about tool safety, basic construction skills and more to create their original Free Little Library designs.

Calling all young women interested in design and building! This is a female only opportunity to learn the basics around engineering and construction. Come learn from successful women in the industry and work with them should to shoulder for this two day experience. Learn the essentials of safety, tool usage and the empowerment that comes with seeing something designed by you come to life.

Come explore the world of police science. Spend a day along side police officers to get a fun, hands on look at what it takes to investigate crime scenes, understand the complexities of body cameras, special operations and more. You don’t want to miss this opportunity to see beyond the uniform.

Day 1 & 2:
Apps, video games, robots, the Internet — the world runs on code. Learn to code and create with a programming language used at major companies like Google.
Create exciting code projects, visit a local tech company, and discuss everything geeky with a local software engineer. Beginners and advanced coders alike will learn new skills and abilities to take beyond the class.
Day 3:
Field trip to Google headquarters in Chicago. This is a one of a kind experience to see behind the scenes of a major tech giant and how coding is used everyday.
