ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING
Week 1:
Snow Lab – We will be looking deep into snow, the crystals, and how much water is really in it. We will become snow hydrologists as we study this winter-time weather.
Week 2:
Enrichment Extravaganza – Not only do animals need their physical needs (food, water, shelter, space) met, but they also need mental stimulation. In this lab, students will work as zookeepers to build enrichment for our red-eared sliders, Carl and Aldo. We will learn about the turtles’ behavior in the wild and build safe things for them to interact with that they aren’t used to having in their current habitats.
Week 3:
Water Strider Science – In this lab, students will learn the forces that help some critters “walk” on top of the water. They will then build their own water striders that will stay atop the water and keep from sinking!
Week 4:
Mini Wastewater Treatment Plant – How does contaminated water get cleaned? We will talk about how contaminants in our waterways are treated and which ones are the hardest to get rid of. We will build our own wastewater treatment plants to rid contaminants as best as we can. Who will be able to get the cleanest water?
